It looks like the NBA season will return this year around Christmas, so now that the season looks to have been saved it’s time to start thinking about betting on the NBA, specifically which team will win the NBA Championship this year.  The oddsmakers seem to think there are 5 teams with a legitimate shot at the title, but of course the Miami Heat are at the top of the list.  Here are the top 5 teams and their odds according to 5Dimes.com.  If you decide to bet at 5Dimes, be sure to use a 5Dimes marketing code in order to get the best bonus possible.

  • Miami Heat +235
  • Chicago Bulls +620
  • Los Angeles Lakers +620
  • Oklahoma City Thunder +700
  • Dallas Mavericks +950

The Miami Heat made the finals last year, but they were unable to stop Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks who were able to pull off the big upset and win the championship in 6 games.  The Heat still has Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh so they are once again the favourites to win the title.  The Heat got off to a rocky start last year and they were unable to fully mesh their three elite players enough to win the title.  This being their second year I think the Heat have a better chance to prevail in the NBA Championships.  I really like the +235 odds for the Heat to take the Championship this year.

The Chicago Bulls are ranked number 2 according to these odds and this has a great deal to do with Derrick Rose, who was the MVP of the NBA last season.  That being said, one player shouldn’t be enough to derail the Miami Heat and I expect a similar Conference Finals to last year, when the Heat defeated the Bulls in 5 games.

These odds are the longest I have seen for the LA Lakers in many years.  Kobe Bryant is still their go to player and one of the top performers in the league.  The Lakers lost in four straight to the Mavericks last year.  The Lakers remain the top rated team in the West and the fact that they don’t have to defeat both the Bulls and the Heat definitely helps their chances.

Kevin Durant and the Thunder have a similar look to the Bulls, with Durant being a key player for the team.  If Durant can continue to build on his performance from last season he will be a threat to win the MVP this season and could push the Thunder further into the playoffs.

The Mavericks at +950 have fairly long odds for a team that won the Championship last season.  That being said it was a surprise victory and the team, as well as Dirk Nowitzki, are older this season.  I wouldn’t bet against Dirk though and I expect him to have the drive to bring the Mavs deep into the playoffs once again.
